Privacy — Spinetta

The principle
Spinetta shows the public chargers that fit your electric car, how reliable they are from drivers’ recent reports, and plans the charging stops of a trip. It has no ads, no account of its own and no tracking. Your car, your trips and your location stay on your device and in your own iCloud. What you choose to publish, a charger’s state or a photo, is public, with no name attached.
What the app keeps
Spinetta records what you put into it:
- your vehicle: make, model, year, connector, adapters and the values you typed
- your personal range calibration (Spinetta Pro): a correction per temperature band, learned from the charge you enter at the end of a trip
- the trip under way: destination, route, planned stops
- the reports you published, and the people whose photos you blocked
- your map filters and your preferred directions app
Where it lives
Your vehicle and its calibration live on your device and in your own private iCloud database (CloudKit, run by Apple), which we cannot open. The trip under way, your filters and the people you blocked stay on the device. A report (a charger’s state, the time, the power you got) and a photo you add go to Spinetta’s public iCloud database: everyone using Spinetta can see them, with only an opaque iCloud identifier, never your name or Apple ID. Photos are reduced to 1,280 pixels and stripped of their location and other metadata before they leave your device. The reliability score uses the last 30 days of reports.
What it asks permission for
Every one of these is optional. Refuse any of them and the rest of the app keeps working.
- Location
- While you use the app, to centre the map and find nearby chargers. During a trip you started, also in the background (iOS shows it), to follow your progress and update the Live Activity. Your location is never sent to us.
- Photos
- Apple’s photo picker gives Spinetta only the photo you pick for a charger. Before it is published, Apple’s on-device sensitive content analysis checks it, if you turned that on in Settings.
- Notifications
- During a trip, an alert if a planned charger is reported out of order or with a queue.
- Live Activities
- Your next stop and your charge on the Lock Screen while a trip is under way.
- iCloud
- To keep your vehicle between your devices, and to publish a report or a photo. Publishing needs an iCloud account.
What leaves the device
The app has no analytics, no crash reporting, no advertising and no third-party kit of any kind. What it does send, it sends only to the services below, and only for what you asked it to do:
- Our relay, presa.nidello.ca: public data
- The files of public chargers and vehicles, by province or state. Your device asks for a whole province by its name; nothing about you is sent, and the relay keeps no log. It also serves the share links (presa.nidello.ca/b/… and /t), which carry only what the link says: a charger’s name and coordinates, or a destination.
- iCloud (CloudKit), Apple
- Your vehicle, in your own iCloud; reports and photos, in Spinetta’s public database; during a trip, a subscription so Apple can alert you about the planned chargers.
- Maps (MapKit), Apple
- Searching for a place, the route of a trip, and what is near a charger.
- Weather (WeatherKit), Apple
- The forecast temperatures at points along your route, at the times you will pass. Nothing says who they are for.
- App Store, Apple
- The one-time purchase of Spinetta Pro, checked on your device. We receive nothing about it.
Our relay serves public files and keeps no log. A photo that drivers report reaches us for review (the photo and the reason given, never who reported it).
Other Nidello apps
Spinetta reads the electric cars you entered in AutoCarnet, on your device, through a shared folder of the apps, to suggest your vehicle. Nothing is added until you choose it. When you tap “Add this charge to AutoCarnet”, Spinetta puts that charge in the same folder (date, charger name, network, and the energy and amount you entered; never your location), and AutoCarnet offers it for you to add.
Reporting, blocking and help
A report has no free text: only a charger’s state and, if you want, the power you got. If a photo is out of place, open it and tap Report (four reasons): it is hidden for you at once, and for everyone after three reports. We review reported photos every day and remove those that break the rules. Block hides all of that person’s photos from you; they are not told, and you can unblock in Settings. For anything else, write to [email protected] or see the support page.
Your data is yours
Delete your vehicle in the app and it is removed from your devices and your iCloud. Ending a trip removes it from your device. To have a report or a photo you published removed from the public database, write to [email protected] with the charger’s name and the date.
Children
Spinetta is not directed at children and collects nothing for us about anyone.
Changes to this page
If the app ever starts doing something this page does not describe, this page changes first. The date at the top says when it last did.
Your rights
Quebec’s Law 25, Canada’s PIPEDA and similar laws elsewhere give you the right to access, correct and delete the personal information a business holds about you. Your vehicle is in your own iCloud, where you can change or delete it yourself. Reports and photos are public and carry no name; ask and we remove yours. Any question: [email protected].
