Why these names

Almost all of our names are Italian words, chosen for what they mean: each one says in a single word what the app does. Here is what they mean.

The studio

  • NidelloItalian · a little nest

From nido, a nest, with the diminutive -ello: a little nest. Our apps keep your data at home, on your own device; the name says the same thing.

The apps

  • CartinaItalian · the little map

The diminutive of carta: the map you unfold on the road. Cartina lights up every country and region you have been to. It is the map of your travels.

  • BivioItalian · the fork in the road

The place where two roads part and you have to choose. Bivio compares two ways of making the same trip and tells you what each one costs. That is all the app is for.

  • ValicoItalian · the pass, the crossing

A valico di frontiera is a border crossing. Valico gets you ready for that moment when you travel with your medication.

  • Dono LogItalian · the gift

Dono, the gift; Log, the book you write it in. Dono Log keeps the record of your blood, plasma and platelet donations.

  • CautelaItalian · caution

The care you take before acting. Cautela states your allergies clearly, in the language of the person serving you.

  • SordinaItalian · the mute

The piece fitted to an instrument to soften its sound. Sordina taps your wrist when your voice climbs above the room.

  • GuardiaItalian · the watch, the guard

In Italy the guardia medica is the doctor on call; in Spain and Argentina la guardia is a hospital’s emergency department. Guardia finds the one that will see you soonest.

  • Carico LogItalian · the load

The weight on the bar, and the amount of work in a session. Carico Log records every set, on your wrist or on your iPhone.

  • IndossoItalian · I wear

What I am wearing tonight. Indosso suggests an outfit nobody where you are going has seen you in.

  • MescitaItalian · the pouring

The act of pouring, and the counter where drinks are served. Mescita keeps your bar and cellar, and tells you what you can serve with what you have.

  • MarmitonsFrench · the kitchen hands

The one name that is not ours: it belongs to the club. A marmiton is a young kitchen helper, and the app is for the club’s members.

  • AutoCarnetFrench · the car logbook

A name that says what it is: your vehicle’s maintenance logbook, and the report you hand the buyer on the day you sell.

  • TanicaItalian · the jerry can

The fuel can. Tanica ranks stations by what you save once the detour is paid for.

  • SpolaItalian · the shuttle

The shuttle of a loom, going from one side to the other; fare la spola means to go back and forth. Spola moves your music between Apple Music, Shazam and Spotify.

  • QuadrettoItalian · the little square

The little square of graph paper: carta a quadretti is a school exercise book. It is exactly one cell of a sudoku.

  • PareggioItalian · the draw

And the pareggio di bilancio, a balanced budget. That is the rule of the game: as many of each piece on every row and every column.

  • StellettaItalian · the little star

The diminutive of stella. In Star Battle you place little stars in the grid, and no two may touch.
